This is a gentle yoga flow that will focus on deep breathing with a goal to help you feel good from head to toe! Modifications will be offered, which allows us to choose what works best for us and our body. Having agency over our body and choosing which intensity works best for us is super important as we move through our practice, connecting us to our mind, body and soul. This class is open to all experiences, I look forward to flowing with you!Mindfulness Outside: In Relationship with the Land
with Erin
I invite you to savor our time in nature together as we explore some of Cal-Wood’s beautiful trails and landscapes. Inspired by the Japanese practice of forest bathing (shinrin-yoku), we’ll take our time exploring and connecting with nature through sensory experiences, creative and playful activities, guided meditation, and quiet reflection. This time in nature has all kinds of health benefits too, from lowering stress to boosting our health and happiness. As we practice slowing down and tuning in to our surroundings, my hope is that we may each rediscover ways that we are in relationship with the natural world, our home. Please bring water and a journal and pen (if writing or sketching are helpful reflection tools for you). Wear comfortable hiking shoes and expect to go off trail during our time together.

Team building 101!
with Jessie
Clean out those lines of communication, get to know your team members strengths and needs, discover when to be a leader, follower, or get out of the team’s way, see how others perceive you, and so much more, all while having FUN! There are hundreds of “games” that bring us together in fun and challenging ways and simple ways to talk about those games that can give incredible insight to ourselves and our relationships. In a cultural time of divisiveness, learning ways to connect in deep and meaningful ways is more important than ever, let laughter, curiosity, and joy lead the way. Up to twelve participants are welcome to join us!The Five Basic Needs of a Survivor
with Jessie
We go into “survival mode” when we feel threatened and stressed out, which often leads to more problems, and so many of us feel stressed out almost continually now. Safety is more of a state of mind than a physical reality; life is fragile and never guaranteed from moment to moment. We have 5 basic needs, focusing on and meeting these needs in any situation helps keep us grounded and making healthy decisions. Come learn what they are, how they relate, specifically in wilderness situations, and then see how they can be applied anywhere in our lives. Having a concrete plan and the tools to enact it, helps us feel empowered to act in meaningful ways in our lives and communities. Up to 20 folks may participate. The Creative Connections Within Ourselves And Our Communities
with Jennifer
We will start by painting solely for you, mixing colors and creating an individual abstract self portrait. We will use the paint to honor your gifts, creating the colors that make you feel calm and bring you joy, the paint strokes that represent your resilience and your strength, the movements that make you feel seen and heard, the tones that reflect your thoughts, the textures that represent the roads you have traveled to get to where you are today, who you are today. Noticing what happens when we give ourselves the time, grace and tools to truly express ourselves and also how this affects the way we show up in our community with the people beside us. You will then be invited to use your personal connections, abilities, awareness and energy to paint on a collaborative community canvas. This will be an ongoing workshop giving you the opportunity over the weekend to drop in and Express & Celebrate Yourself ~ Individually and Collectively.Backpacking Basics
with Lisa
Learn how to get started in backpacking! We’ll discuss planning, packing, and the equipment necessary to spend a few nights outdoors under the stars. Embrace self-sufficiency with everything you need riding on your back. Wander wherever the trails take you, seeing sights and vistas that many have imagined and yet few have ventured to and experienced. Go backpacking and get off the beaten path!
Intentional Hike & Reflection
with Sam
As the Summit Sisters weekend comes to a close, take time to gently land and reflect with this peaceful guided experience in the woods. We’ll begin with a mindful hike, intentionally engaging all five senses to reconnect with ourselves and the natural world around us. Along the way, we’ll each find a quiet “sit spot” to journal, reflect on our weekend, and listen deeply to what nature and our hearts have to say. After time alone in stillness, we’ll gather in circle to share our reflections and set intentions as we transition into the fall season. This workshop offers a grounding way to integrate your experience, carry forward what you’ve learned, and close the weekend with presence, peace, and community.Wildlife Encounters: Staying Safe in CO
with Lisa
Worried about meeting up with wildlife on your outdoor adventures and not knowing what to do? This is the class for you! We will talk about Colorado wildlife and what steps we can take to make encounters with them safer. Learn about the animals themselves as well as precautionary measures available to help protect both them and ourselves. You’ll also get the chance to practice deploying bear spray.

Indigenous Voices and the World We Live In
with Donna
Immerse yourself in a powerful outdoor learning experience that centers Indigenous voices, histories, and ways of knowing. This course explores the land through Indigenous perspectives, emphasizing cultural respect, historical accuracy, and connection to place. Guided by Donna Chrisjohn, Lakota knowledge keeper, participants will engage in land-based learning to deepen their understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions. Learn how to recognize the lasting impacts of colonization, honor local Indigenous histories, and incorporate cultural sensitivity into your interactions with and enjoyment of Unci Maka – Mother Earth. With a multidisciplinary and interactive approach, this course fosters critical thinking, encourages community involvement, and supports a long-term commitment to truth, respect, and reconciliation.Make Lemonade from the Ashes: On Restorative Grieving and Healing In Challenging Times
with HeatherAsh
To deeply love, we must also embrace grief. Tending to our village means including heartbreak and making space for loss. But how do we hold our tenderness and vulnerabilities with courage and compassion? The key ingredient is willingness. You do not need to know how to heal or process the challenges; healing comes with presence and commitment to a new form of self and community care. Join HeatherAsh as she shares the art of fiercely loving and tenderly surrendering; how to receive and how to let go; and personal care when others are going through hard times.
Sacred Pause
with Kriste
Begin or end your day with a grounding, silent outdoor meditation. Held in the gentle light of either sunrise or sunset, this session invites you to settle into stillness and reconnect with your breath, body, and the natural world. Surrounded by rustling leaves, birdsong, or evening crickets, you’ll sit or lie comfortably in silence, guided gently into presence by the rhythms of the land. Free from words and distractions, this quiet space allows for reflection, release, and restoration. Whether morning or evening, this practice offers a sacred pause—an invitation to listen inward and simply be beneath the open sky.
Quiet Feet
with Kriste
A silent, meditative hike—a chance to slow down, listen deeply, and connect with the natural world and yourself. As we move together in stillness, each step becomes an invitation to be present, grounded, and aware. Without the distraction of conversation, we tune into the rhythms of our breath, the sound of wind through trees, and the quiet power of shared movement. This hike offers spaciousness for reflection, release, and renewal—an opportunity to walk with intention and return with clarity. No talking, just presence. Quiet feet, full hearts. This is a moderate climb at roughly 4 miles out and back.
Don’t Get Your Antlers in a Knot
with Satya
In this workshop, we will have an introduction, a warm-up activity, and then we will learn to tie between 2-3 knots. At the end of the workshop, we will split into teams and you must use your knot knowledge to save a teammate from a “moose”.
Stargazing and Storytime
with Lisa
If weather allows, investigate the night skies with Lisa and learn about astronomical happenings and the summer constellations. We will observe the constellations, learning ways to identify them and how to navigate to neighboring stars. We will also have adult storytime and learn the mythology behind these pictures in the sky because bedtime stories aren’t just for kids! Bring warm clothes, a chair or blanket to lay on, and a headlamp with red light capability (to save your night vision). You may also borrow one of our stargazing chairs that recline (limited availability). But most importantly, bring your curiosity for the heavens!
Tie Dye!
with Linnea
Come tie dye! We will be learning how to tie dye various patterns – pleats, spirals, bull’s eye, shibori styles, and more! If you have your own pattern to share, we would love to learn from you as well. Please bring a white 100% cotton garment of your choice, and we will provide all the supplies needed for tie-dying. We suggest wearing darker colored clothing so that the dyes don’t stain the clothes you are wearing.
Frequently Asked Questions
This event is open to all women and non-binary people that are comfortable in a femme centered space. All races, ethnicities, ages, sizes, and experiences levels are welcome at this event.
Around 80 women will gather, creating plenty of opportunities to build connections—whether in lively group settings or more intimate small-group conversations. There will also be unstructured time to relax, recharge, and connect at your own pace. With Cal-Wood’s expansive property, there’s ample space to explore, wander, and immerse yourself in nature’s quiet beauty.
This will be a drug and alcohol free event. This is not a “party” as much as an opportunity to build community and for people to come together in an intentional way that is meant to be more satisfying, fun, and connective than our day-to-day interactions where we are often rushed, tied to our cell phones, and otherwise distracted by minutiae.
To ensure a meaningful and cohesive experience for all participants, we ask that attendees commit to the full retreat. Each session is intentionally designed to build connection, reflection, and growth, and arriving late or leaving early can disrupt the shared experience. Full participation allows everyone to fully immerse in the journey, cultivate deep relationships, and contribute to the collective energy that makes the retreat transformative. We appreciate your understanding and commitment to this shared space!
This year’s Summit Sisters retreat takes place at the beautiful Cal-Wood Outdoor Education Center in Jamestown, Colorado. The roads leading up the retreat are passable by all vehicles, high clearance or 4WD are NOT needed to access the area. The property is a secluded and awe inspiring natural space with rock outcroppings, forested areas, mountain views, wildlife, nature trails, and several beautiful outdoor and indoor gathering areas.
The address is 2282 County Road 87, Jamestown, CO 80455. All guests are responsible for their own transportation to and from the retreat. Women’s Wilderness will not be arranging rideshares. However, when registration closes, we will provide a spreadsheet for all those interested in carpooling to coordinate among themselves. Please plan your travel accordingly.
The elevation is around 7,800 ft above sea level.
Temperatures in August in Jamestown typically range from highs in the 80s to lows in the 40s. So – come prepared with t-shirts and sunscreen, as well as warm clothes and a warm sleeping bag for night time if you are camping.
Cell service will be pretty spotty to non-existent. We encourage folks to take a cell phone break for this weekend! That is part of the magic of getting outside for an extended period in the outdoors! There is a landline phone accessible for urgent and emergency phone calls.
A shared bathroom and shower space is accessible to all participants and conveniently located.
No! This is a GREAT opportunity to acquire skills if you are new to the outdoors OR a seasoned outdoors-person. There will be Women’s Wilderness staff available for questions throughout the weekend, and it’s a “choose your own adventure” atmosphere. All workshops are experiential, and you can expect to have some good discussions, time to learn a variety of skills, and a wealth of activities to participate in. We do underscore that this is an event for people who are interested in learning, engaging in community, and being outdoors.
Cal-Wood has a fully equipped cafeteria and meeting space, and their staff will be serving and preparing all of our meals during the weekend. They have a reputation for delicious food! Cal-Wood Kitchen prepares healthy and nutritious meals from scratch using whole ingredients. They can fully or partially accommodate most dietary needs, with the exception of Celiac Disease related gluten allergies and other severe allergies from trace amounts of contaminants. Participants with severe allergies will have the ability to bring their own food and access to a microwave and refrigerator. See here for more information. Snacks will also be available!
Around 80 women! So – if you are an extrovert, there will be plenty of chances to make new friends and hang out in big groups. AND, if you are an introvert and thrive on quiet time and small group interactions, you can get that, too. The workshops will be in small groups and the property is BIG – lots of room to roam and find space to quietly connect to nature.
We do not require or organize sign ups for the specific workshops or outings. The weekend is yours to make it what YOU need it to be in each moment, and to choose how to participate as the weekend evolves.
