Discover Outdoors

Registration Deadline: April 30, 2026.
Paperwork Deadline: May 15, 2026.
Discover Outdoors is our newest overnight camp designed for rising 5th-6th grade girls and gender-expansive youth! We listened to previous years’ participants, and they spoke up: they want more activities and were ready for more overnights!
This year, we’re excited to partner with Cal-Wood Education Center ( in Jamestown, Colorado), where we’ll explore the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Discover Outdoors is the perfect introduction to a week-long overnight camp that includes:
- A camp experience blending bunk-style and tent camping
- Home-cooked and outdoor camping meals
- And a wide range of immersive outdoor activities– including hiking, archery, rock climbing, and more
The first three nights will be spent in cabins near the main lodge, with cozy home-cooked meals in the dining hall. Thursday they’ll pack up their gear and head to a camping location on Cal-Wood’s property where they’ll spend the evening and Friday camping in tents and cooking in the great outdoors. This adventurous, joyful, educational, and community-centered camp will be one of the best ways to discover the outdoors, all in the stunning setting of Colorado’s mountains.
Discovery Outdoors Itinerary
- Day 1 (Monday): Kickoff at Women’s Wilderness
They’ll begin by getting to know one another through team-building activities. Our Instructors will make sure everyone has the personal and group gear they need, and then drive 50 minutes to Cal-Wood to check in. - Day 1 -3 (Monday-Wednesday): Outdoor Exploration
Campers will explore the natural wonders of the Cal-Wood campus. The days will be filled with activities like archery, rock climbing, hiking, nature exploration, and arts & crafts. Each meal will be provided by Cal-Wood chefs, and everyone will bunk together in a cabin near the main lodge. - Day 4-5 (Thursday – Friday): Camping Exploration
The group will transition from bunk-style camping to backcountry camping! After a hearty meal at the lodge, they’ll pack up gear and drive to the camping spot on Cal-Wood’s campus. After setting up camp, they’ll enjoy playing around the campsite, taking short hikes, and learning essential camping skills. - Day 5 (Friday): Pack Up and Return to Boulder
The week will wrap up on Friday by returning to Boulder to deissue gear, reflect on the week’s adventures, and share heartfelt “goodbyes until next time!”
This is the perfect week-long adventure for youth to discover the outdoors and connect deeply with nature, community, and themselves!
The course is led by professional and experienced outdoor instructors with extensive experience in youth outdoor education. Each guide is a certified Wilderness First Responder and is fully trained in Women’s Wilderness curriculum and risk management protocols, ensuring a safe, enriching, and enjoyable experience for every participant. Trained and experienced Cal-Wood staff will facilitate the archery and rock climbing experiences.
