Course Description:

Ready to reach new heights? Our Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing one-day course is perfect for women and non-binary people who have experience climbing in a gym and are ready to transition their skills to outdoor rock climbing.

In this course you will learn essential techniques and safety protocols, including anchor cleaning, which is the process of removing a climber’s gear from an anchor point in order to free up the anchor for other climbers, or to lower off of a climb. All climbing in this course will be top roping.

This course aims to build confidence while scaling real rock faces under the guidance of our experienced and certified rock technician instructors. Women’s Wilderness will provide all the climbing gear, including personal climbing gear – including harnesses, shoes, and helmets for those that do not own their own gear. This is your chance to discover the joy of climbing outdoors in a supportive and empowering environment!

⛰️ Activity level: Participants should have at least basic experience climbing in a gym before enrolling in this course. Participants will need to have the ability to walk and stand for multiple hours in a day. The approach to the climbing area from the parking area is less than 10 minutes. The climbing area is located at an elevation of 6,750 feet; the wall is a north-facing aspect, providing shade for much of the day.

➕ Included: Professional, experienced, and certified rock climbing guides; snacks; all climbing ropes, carabiners, belay devices, and bolt boards; gear rental – including harness, helmet, climbing shoes, clothing, and backpacks (and link to reserve gear will be sent to registered participants)

What to Wear & Bring:

Daypack (22L-30L)

Your lunch and additional snacks

Water (approximately 3L/100 ounces – equivalent to 3 Nalgeens)

Harness, rock climbing shoes, helmet, chalk bag (Women’s Wilderness has these items to rent, complementary, for this course)

Sun and element (rocks, bugs) protection – clothing, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray

Registered participants will receive a detailed outdoor rock climbing checklist, including guidance on what to wear and bring. Recommended clothing for outdoor rock climbing is similar to hiking clothing.
