Equity Outdoors & Sliding Scale

As we neared the close of 2023 our team spent a lot of time reflecting on our mission, vision and values, exploring what we wanted to bring forward and do more of in the new year. From a programming standpoint, we reviewed everything from our youth courses to community events, we pored over your feedback, we considered questions of equity and access more deeply, too. All which ultimately informed our planning.

This kind of review is central to how we often work: together. Granted, working collaboratively isn’t always the most convenient process, nor is it perfect or straightforward every time.

It’s not even that consensus is our end goal. What’s so great about this comprehensive approach, though, is it ensures everyone’s voice is heard and that we’re thinking more holistically about how we do what we do. It’s this very process that led us to our latest offering: sliding scale pricing.

Since the inception of Women’s Wilderness, we have never turned anyone away due to lack of funds, and we are committed to continuing that tradition. Women’s Wilderness has long recognized that systemic barriers often limit the opportunities for engagement and connection in nature, and introducing the sliding scale pricing helps to close those gaps by inviting the community to support each other according to their own resources.

Here’s how it works: Anytime you register for a paid course, you’ll be presented with three price points, or tiers, to choose from. Tier 1 supports basic programmatic expenses, while the Tier 2 price point goes farther toward covering general staffing costs. Tier 3 allows you to “pay it forward” by ensuring we’re able to continue offering transformational programming to everyone who seeks it.
